Thank you for your interest in the International Lutheran Council (ILC), which includes more than 40 Lutheran church bodies worldwide. These churches are united through their commitment to the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and infallible Word of God and to the Lutheran Confessions as its true and faithful exposition.
Chairman Bishop Juhana Pohjola (Evangelical Lutheran Mission Diocese of Finland – ELMDF) is the current president of this council, which encourages worldwide Christ-centered and confessional Lutheran teaching and living within the church as well as in missions, communities, and vocations. This includes areas and respective groups and communities with which an official church relationship is not yet established. There is the option of an associative membership.
For several years, the ILC has been present in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The Old Latin School was dedicated early 2015 and since then has served as a Lutheran church, visitor center and seminar operated by the International Lutheran Society of Wittenberg gGmbH (ILSW). President Matthew Harrison of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is the chairman of this Society and is expanding this site significantly.
You can find weekly Divine services (German, English and Ukrainian), occasional seminars, and workshops plus daily Germany classes offered daily by Dr. Angelika Weber. Thursdays the local “Englisch Stammtisch” meets in the Old Latin School. You are most cordially invited to take part.
The Old Latin School is open daily for tourists right in the heart of Wittenberg. We have a small Lutheran bookstore. Our chapel is open for everyone to see. Hartmut Rademann from Schwarzenberg in the Erzgebirge combined new design with historical forms (door arch) and materials (sandstone, oak wood, etc.). Upstairs Ukrainian refugees have found a safe space thanks to gracious support of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Next door we have five grand apartments too.
